Teachers' Biographies
Craig Sharp, Principal Teacher
I
first discovered yoga in my early twenties while travelling in India. After
an apprenticeship in teaching over a period of eight years I became a qualified
Iyengar yoga teacher. During these years I formed a strong foundation in practice
and teaching, particularly in the technicalities of alignment and the discipline
of practice. I was guided thoughtfully, carefully and rigorously by many teachers
within the lyengar tradition. I travelled four times to India to study at
the Iyengar Yoga Institute with B.K.S. Iyengar, Geeta Iyengar and Prashant
Iyengar.
My search for meaning continued to take me deeper into my practice and on first meeting John Friend (the founder of Anusara Yoga) I was immediately excited and soon saw that the practice of Anusara Yoga embraced the whole. Not only was it satisfying philosophically, I could see it working magically on my inner life. I was becoming happier, the pieces were coming together and I could see a wholistic practice emerging.
Anusara Yoga has given me the guidelines and principles for my own practice as well as a system that allows me my own expression in sharing with and guiding others on the path of yoga. The vision of Anusara Yoga is a vision that holds as sacred the qualities of the heart the desire for a harmonious community of teachers and practitioners and a deep yearning to honour and connect with spirit in all its forms.
Cassandra Missio
Yoga is a life practice that offers me the technology to explore my inner landscape, my heart with an attitude of compassion and acceptance.
As part of my process of deepening my knowledge of the Yoga Art I have completed four years of a Yoga Teacher Training Apprenticeship with Craig Sharp. I have been practising under his guidance since 1998. I have also trained with John Friend both in Australia and the United States.
As a teacher of Yoga I wish to offer my students
guidance that supports them in recognising their own inner wisdom
and goodness. Look forward to meeting you on the mat!
